Castle Dolorous: Features and expectations

Gameplay

  • Your goal is to survive a violently haunted castle, where nothing is as it seems.
  • Uncover the story, and find out how and why Castle Dolorous got its name.
  • Find the missing person, if you don't go missing yourself
  • Make your way through a linear, but massive and high quality castle ruin.
  • First person perspective for maximum immersion.
  • Simple, clean, and unobtrusive UI.
  • Outstanding graphics, light, and sound design.

Distinguishable Features

  • Rechargeable flashlight. That's right, no batteries, no matchsticks, just a reliable flashlight with infinite usability. Just remember: if it starts to go dim, crank it as soon as possible. Bad things happen in the darkness...
  • You are not going in alone, as you have an NPC team with you (well... not the whole time, anyway).
  • Watch the history of the castle unfold as you play, through visual manifestations. No long notes to read, only visual and audio storytelling.
  • Relies highly on the environment. Pay attention to what you see and what you hear. Your life may just depend on it.

Planned and extra features

  • VR mode. Experience the terror and anxiety of wandering a dark, decrepit, haunted castle as if you were there! Sounds fun right..?
  • Multiplayer Hunt Mode. But how would that work? What if you and your team of up to 5 players were being hunted by a player-controlled creature of the dark inside a randomly generated castle dolorous style maze environment? Whoever finds the exit without getting caught wins! The creature type is random.
  • Singleplayer Hunt Mode. Just you and an AI creature inside randomly generated castle dolorous style maze environment. The creature type is random.

In conclusion, technical data

  • Game engine: Unity 3D 2019+.
  • Music: Dark Fantasy Studio, Liscensed.
  • Sound: Fmod
  • Coded in: Mostly C#
  • Budget: TBD
  • Planned release date: Set release dates are never a good idea. There are too many variables at play, and if anything should happen to delay release, it would only let down those interested. Though the scope of the project is grand, a basic playable version could take a year or less for a "demo" of sorts. The first chapter will be the demo, and each chapter will be added on until it is finished. The finished project could take a few years, however the basic playable version would have been released and updated long before then.
